My 1200 sq ft Mangaris deck is only two years old. It was originally sealed with Cabots Australian Timber Oil. I never really liked the way it came out the first time when done professionally. This time I decided to do it myself. I have stripped the old sealer off and brightened the wood. I then sanded the wood with 60 gr using an orbital floor sander. Unfinished it looks great. I have started staining using Superdeck Exotic Hardwood Stain in Natural. It goes extremely dark and really looks awful. I would like it to stay as light as possible. I realize it will require more maintenance, but I just hate it dark and splotchy. I have resigned myself to the fact that where I have already stained, I am going to have to restrip and brighten then sand again. What sealer do you suggest keeping in mind I want very little darkening? What grit do you recommend for a final sanding before the sealer is applied? Thank you! Pictures available if needed.

Look at Armstrong Clark in Amber or Defy Hardwood Natural Pine. Might want to get some samples so you do not have to do this again.

Thank you for your response. Quick follow up question. What grit of sandpaper should I use for my final sanding before I seal? Thanks again.

60-80 grit. Not too smooth as you want the stain to soak in well.

Thank you. I used the Armstrong Clark Amber for hardwood. Much easier to apply and it came out great.
