Hello,
I have a huge deck (three of them actually) built in 2008. They are made of Siberian Larch, which I was told is a very dense Russian version of pine. When they were first installed, the contractor put some kind of finish on it which was stunning, but eventually became covered in black mold. They came back and sanded the boards and applied a semi-transparent stain. That lasted about a year. then I had the outside of the house painted and the contractor put a semi opaque stain on it, which has now worn off in lots of places. I pressure washed the whole thing and it's a messy combination of stain and unstained boards.
Would like recommendations for getting rid of the rest of the stain (seems like RAD is the way to go) as well as a translucent type of stain.
Thanks! this is a great site....glad I found it!
. State you live in: Georgia
2. Full Shade, Partial Shade, or Full Sun: gets full sun at different parts of the day
3. Type of Wood: Siberian Larch
4. Mold or Mildew Issues: black mold, plus pollen
5. Main Issues with Previous Stains: they just don't last more than a year or so
I am not sure if the RAD stripper will remove all of these old coatings. We would strip off what we can and sand the rest as needed. Your wood is treated like a hardwood and that means annual maintenance. Since you have to stain it every year, you want a product that can be cleaned and reapplied without all this prepping hassle. Look at Armstrong Clark in Amber color.
