Hello, thanks for the website!

  • 1. State you live in

  • 2. Full Shade, Partial Shade, or Full Sun

Deck - Full sun

Front Porch - partial shade

  • 3. Type of Wood

treated lowes pine

  • 4. Mold or Mildew Issues

no

  • 5. Main Issues with Previous Stains

N/a

I have a new deck that I built this spring, along with a front porch I replaced at the same time.  The deck has dried out considerably, even cracking and splintering in some places, definitely greying a bit. For this reason I figured I would stain it before winter. I purchased semi-transparent Olympic elite stain (along with Olympic cleaner). When I moved everything off the deck however, I realized there are small areas where the lumber isn't dry. Where the base of the table umbrella was, where the welcome mat was, where the couch was, etc.

These areas don't pass the water bead test. In addition, after noticing this I decided to check my front porch which is covered, and realized the boards closest to the house are also not as dry.

What can can I do to help the stain adhere? Will sanding help? Is stain on "wet" lumber sure to peel? If so would I be able to re stain hose areas in the spring perhaps?

much thanks for any advice.

Best to wait and do all in the Spring. It will be fine. Prep again.
