What happens if I only stain one side of western cedar fence?

I have a seven foot western red cedar fence, 7 week old, five foot board with 2 feet lattice. I can only stain my side of the fence. If only one side of the cedar fence is stained will I have problems with warping or cracking or would I be better off not staining and just letting it grey out. Also if its ok to stain one side what is the best (long lasting) semi transparent stain. Thanks.
