I have a new western red cedar deck in OH that has been finished for 2 weeks, and have decided to use either TWP 1500 Semi-Transparent Stain or Defy Extreme. TWP states I should wait 3 months to put product on. I can't wait that long or I will be out of weather. My deck has seen several rains, and there is no beading of water. Is the 3 months absolutely necessary or can I cut that down to maybe 6 weeks? The Defy Extreme doesn't necessary state any waiting period. My first preference is to use the TWP, but don't want to have to wait that long, but wonder if I choose the Defy Extreme, am I also pushing the limit in only waiting 6 weeks? Very good information on this forum, and I appreciate any advice.

Yes you need to wait and TWP wants 4-12 months. Defy extremes states 3 months I believe. If you use the Extreme make sure to prep correctly first with a deck cleaner and brightener. Only one coat of stain now. You can always do another light coat next year.

Thank you very much.......so based on that, would I be okay to leave it unsealed over the winter and do the cleaning/brightening and application in the spring?
