I live in California, in the Sierra foothills, temperatures range from the teens and 20's in the winter to mid-100's in the summer. Deck is partial sun with overhanging oaks and ponderosa pines. It does have mildew/mold issues, especially on shaded N end of deck. IPE deck installed in 2002 -
TWP300: Works extremely well for redwood siding, but on IPE immediately very susceptible to scratches bc it is a finish after 1 coat. 2 years later I had a contractor strip and apply an Olympic product, that has failed. I decided to let it go, but now I want to restore color. So, my plan is to use RAD strip & brightener, f/u with Press Wash, and then apply TWP 100 or 1500 or AC Mahogany. I thought the general recommendation for IPE on this site was AC, but I noticed one post in which TWP was mentioned. I realize since I'm in CA, if I use TWP, I have to go w 1500, but if I was in a non-VOC state, would 100 be a better bet for IPE? Do you generally recommend AC over TWP?
TWP 100 penetrates better then the 1500 on IPE. We would still use the AC though in the Mahogany color. You will need to clean and reapply every year for IPE.
