I have used Sikkens Cerol SRD RE for the past 4 years, and every spring it's sand and recoat. This year I found this site and decided to strip the deck and railings (knotty cedar deck and clear cedar railings installed about 15 years ago and still looking fine). I wanted to use the Defy stripper and brightened, but every listed hardware store did not have the products in stock. I purchased a gallon of Rock Miracle deck stripper and was told that a neutralizer would not be necessary. I spray pumped the stepper on, waited 10-15 minutes and used a pressure washer, at 1kpsi to remove after a lite scrubbing with a stiff brush. The horizontal(knotty cedar) came out pretty clean, but the clear cedar railing were BLACK!. Both surfaces had an oily feel to them. It has now been about 2 hours and they are lightening slightly. I was hoping to apply a semi- transparent stain in order to extend my maintenance time and hoping to use a product recommended on this site. Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks,
Peter S
Make sure all the old stain is removed and apply the brightener to lighten the color.
It has whitened up significantly, but I am applying a bright ear/neutralizer also. What is a safe choice for a new finish? I would like to stick with the penetrating oil type, but now feel it's necessary to step up to a semi transparent in hopes of extending my maintenance of the finish.
BTW, this is an interesting and useful forum. Thanks for your time and efforts.

Try the TWP 1500 Series or Armstrong Clark. Both come in a penetrating semi-transparent colors and are oil based.
