Not comfortable with using chemical strippers with a stained house and he doesn't want the spindles stripped either. I read one of your topics about diamabrush and feel this may be the safest solution for just doing the decking in NY , he has been using solid color water based for a few applications and it has excessive peeling. It's an older deck and he wants to see the wood grain, but I'm wondering how well it will clean up with diamabrush to justify semi transparent stain. I'm leaning towards a semi solid for his deck. Any suggestions or tips?? I have 17 years experience with interior ,exterior painting, but recently started focusing on deck restoration as I can't do a lot of ladder work anymore. Thanks in advance.
A Diamabrush will get it off the floors. That and some spot sanding. Once removed, look at these semi-solid stains:
