Hello,

I have a deck that is about 5 years old.  I let it weather the first year then I stained it using Armstrong Clark's Transparent Cedar Tone the following summer. 3rd year I cleaned & brightened & re-stained using the same Armstrong Clark Transparent Cedar tone.  I live near Toronto and my deck is full sun so I really only get one season out of this tone, so I want to go darker.  I really like Armstrong Clark's product so I want to go with a darker stain they make.

My question is, if I stay with the same brand do I just need to do a cleaning again or do I need to strip as well?

If you go darker in color, clean and brighten for prep.

Thank you.

Considering I used a transparent stain originally, and due to the deck being full sun it only really lasted a season before having to re-stain, would you recommend going to a semi-transparent or a semi-solid?  I'd like to re-stain the deck every 2 summers instead of once a year.

Either semi-trans or semi-solid. Semi-solid would give the max UV protection.
