I'm a central Wisconsin Resident with a very large deck who started staining his deck last night. The product used was "[url]Thompsons Water Seal Deck & House Oil Stain Solid" over top 5-10 year pine boards and railings. We chose Sierra Brown for color, and the sun sets on our deck.

Unfortunately, we did not research stain enough to realize what "solid" meant. We're fine on the color, but when reading about the stain maintenance it sounds like an absolute nightmare over the long-term... specifically the chipping/flaking of the stain.

We're about 3 hours in on a 10 hour project. Should we attempt to remove the stain now or just finish it and live with it? What are your opinions on making this work as it is?

It will probably peel in a few years or less. The only way to get this off is to sand it all off.
