Read a ton of reviews on this site and decided to get some samples of AC, Defy, and TWP to see what they would look like on the PT sourced for the deck I built and cedar railing. Unfortunately the semi-transparents did not fit the aesthetic appeal I was after (not being solid enough, little choice in color), and the colors were not as expected (the PT I have I think is copper azol, and has very little green vs some of the wood you see at lowes or HD).

The wood is only about 4wks old now, location is central Jersey. The deck has partial shade and partial sun. I do have a front and side porch I used SW solid stain last year and it is green with mold and peeling all over the place (-junk stain).

Since I do have a cedar railing I wanted to do a two tone deck against a very very light gray house. I like the color choices Cabots provide in the semi-solid stain category, but after reading a lot I'm a bit concerned with maintenance. Cabots also has a lot of choices in semi-transparent. Only product local to me and from HD.

One question I have is if a semi-solid has to be manually stripped or does it require complete removal before reapplying a maintenance coat?

Are there other semi-solids on market that are competative with AC and can be reapplied for maintenance without stripping?

End result, looking for low maintenance and ease of applying maintenance coats to the PT deck and cedar railing.

Thank you for any advice or recommendation on where to look into. I want to try an stain the deck ASAP as it is already starting to shrink and crack all over.

It depends on how the semi-solid stain performs if it needs to be stripped or not. In general you want a product that can be easily removed if needed. Armstrong's semi-solid can be easily removed but Cabot's cannot as theirs is more like a paint.

Not really on the AC comparison and other brands. AC is a penetrating semi-solid while most are filming semi-solids.

The better a stain penetrates the easier it is to clean, recoat, and remove if needed.
