After seeing good reviews I purchased One Step to stain and seal our porch. It has glass on the bottom of the outside two walls. The upper panels are screened in summer and glass the rest of the year. Once company was done and summer on the wane I was set to apply it. In reading the directions I finally noticed the line about not using under a roof. But I figured it had to do with fumes or such. And we do get rain in through the screens. So I forged ahead. Some days later it wasn't drying and I began to get nervous. I went back to the internet, searching under Reviews again. I found a couple references to it taking a long time to dry. And then the line that told me I was in big trouble. One sentence said what was not said anywhere else, including on the label. It said it was UV cured. Since UVA doesn't get past glass, and UVB is cut by half this was starting to look disastrous.

Once some absorption had occurred I tried wiping the whole floor down. It helped but we can still wipe stain up in places. Weeks later it still has not cured. And, since we live in Maine, the temperatures aren't helping with anymore drying that might happen.

My husband tried the company twice. He could not get past the phone operators who both said to position mirrors to aim sunlight on the floor. His last attempt was to try and find out which wavelengths were used in the curing. After talking with guys who use UV to cure some indoor applications,, he hoped finding the right UV wavelength would help us find a lamp we could use. They said theirs was too powerful and would bubble it. Another said some have flashpoints and have to be hit with the light at a certain time, like 90 minutes. Where this is designed for outdoor use that didn's seem to be the situation.

A friend loaned us a small fixture with 4 smalll UV bulbs in it, probably for growing plants. We've been moving it around after 8 hours in a spot. But it is not doing anything that we can tell. In fact I just wiped up some more sealer in a spot where the light had been.

Any ideas to get us out of the pickle I've gotten us into? This is red cedar, new last fall, with nothing on it before this.

Thanks,
Sebago

Sorry but no idea. It may never fully cure correctly. There is a reason we do not like this product and the curing issues or lack thereof, is one of the main reasons.

Hope it works out for you in the end.

Shoot. I was so hoping you had the magic cure. I had only found good reviews about it before buying it. I sure wish I had found some that said to stay away for this reason.

Thank you anyway.
