We are building a new home.
I believe we’ve made a mistake and need guidance. We have several cedar beam ends tucked in the high gables…. Just the butt of the beam end.  Our builder coated them with Helmsman about a month ago. We’re now getting the home stuccoed. Since the scaffolding is now in place, should we add a coat of “Restore a Deck” or either of the other two new wood recommended products over the Helmsman finish?

We’re getting ready to order the “Restore a Deck” for nine exterior corbels so are jsut learning now. If we should add different application, it would be most convenient to apply the finish now since the scaffolding is still up.

Please advise. Thank you!

You cannot coat anything over the Helmsman. You would have to remove that first.

@administrator thank you! Do you recommend we sand them down and put the “Restore…” on them since the scaffolding is currently up. Or would the finish likely be ok with the Helmsman for a couple years. A couple of the beam ends are up three stories.

Is this inside or outside?

If you can, sand off the helmsman and use the RAD stain. Use 60-80 grit paper.

@administrator do you recommend this over leaving them until next finishing? In other words, if we leave it, how much time do we have in the piedmont of NC

how much life in the product would we get if we re do them with RAD?

Thank you for helping us!

The Helmsman is interior only and will have no UV or water protection for exterior wood.
