I am replacing all of the old red cedar shingle siding from a house. I want to use a semitransparent stain on the new shingles. which products will look great and last the longest? The shingles are semi smooth except the bottom edge is rough.
I'm thinking of staining them before installation. Would a water based stain like defy be good for that. The fast drying time would require a lot less space for drying before doing the next batch.
Should I use an oil instead It stain them on the wall after being installed?
If the wood is smooth you need to install, weather and prep. See tips:
As for stain, try TWP 200 Series for this. It is designed for shakes and shingles.
