We have a smooth red western cedar sided home in the Adirondacks of NY treated with penofin 3 years ago that has now turned dark brown/black with mold. We are using an oxygen bleach followed by oxalic containing cleaner/brightener and can get back to clean wood (house is about 10 years old). What would you recommend as a stain/UV protector that might hold up better and require just a simple soap and water cleaning prior to reapplication when needed. Or is there nothing so simple? We are in both shade and sun and have large trees close by.

Thanks. I was considering this vs Defy extreme or Defy for hardwood. Can I inquire as to why you prefer the TWP over either Defy? My concern is whether the oil in TWP will act as growth media for the mold again. Stripping and cleaning up our house as it is now will be a major and unfortunately very costly project. It would be prohibitive having to do this ever 3-5 years

How much time do you manage to get before you have needed to reapply these? Can both be cleaned with soap and water prior to reapplication or will we have to do the wood cleaner and brightener route all over? We are trying to be as informed as possible since this getaway has been anything but since we got it! But, it would be a crime to obsure the beauty of the wood siding with a paint or solid stain.
