I recently took on a side project and sanded out my clients deck and applied 2 coats of Armstrong - Clark stain and it is beautiful. My problem is my client wants his semi enclosed, tongue and grove deck to look like his wood floors inside the house with a surface finish. Can you point me to a possible surface coating and yes I am having trouble wrapping my head around the thought as well as surface finishes mean having to re-coat everything if a repair was needed and the list goes on why I think this is a bad idea.

Thanks

Never put a shiny coating on outside wood. You will ruin the deck!

I have one more question. Is there a penetrating oil I can put over top of the stain to help fill in the grain and give it a more complete look. Something that will give it a little more sheen like a tung oil only for outdoor deck use ?

No you cannot/should not put a top coating on a deck stain. It will create many issues for you.
