I have a new white cedar deck that was installed as part of a new construction log home about 8 months ago (so it is somewhat weathered). we did the prep("log wash"/brightener and buffed it with Sashco's buffy pad system). It has a nice light gray/blond patina, which we like. Three questions. First, your article recommends Armstrong Clark or Timber Oil Brand for new cedar. I was leaning toward TWP 100 but now thinking about AC. But I like the mildew prevention of TWP 100. Is that still a good choice for cedar or is the advantages of AC so much greater for cedar decks that I should go with that? Second, I am thinking of the AC in transparent natural tone. How well does AC transparent stain hold up? Likewise, how does the TWP 100 clear stain hold up (still semi-transparent?) Third, what is the difference between the two AC products you reviewed beside VOC? thanks.

TWP Clear has no color and no UV protection. AC in Natural is transparent and will fade faster than an AC semi-transparent color. TWP colors (not clear) are semi-transparent and would be equal to all the AC semi-transparent but better will be better in UV protection than the AC transparent colors.
Basically, more pigment = better UV protection but the AC and TWP are equal in longevity if comparing apples to apples with the color opacity.

thanks for the information. To confirm, TWP would be equally as good as AC on cedar decks then (as long as comparing "apples to apples"), correct?
