I had the pleasure of getting a house that had Olympic resuce it painted on. The vertical areas are fine but the floor, top railing, and steps were horrible. After many, many hours of angle grinding I have been able to get down to good wood. I have a couple of questions

1) Is there any steps needed done between the grinding and staining, ie do I need to use one of the deck cleaners or do anything to get the wood ready to accept the stain

2) I am thinking of going with the TWP 100 series dark oak and curious on your thoughts with respects to that 2 tone interface with the semi-translucent on the areas being stained and the spindles, side rails, etc being the Olympic resuce it.

1. Give the wood a good pressure washing. This should help to "open" the wood cells some for the stain.

2. If use the Dark Oak, the floors will be a medium to dark brown. If this is the look you desire, it will be fine.

Should I not use one of the deck whitener/prep things to open up the poors or is the pressure washing enough to do it and how many days after the washing/deck solution stuff should I wait before staining?

You can use a deck brightener after the pressure washing.

So you would recommend pressure washing (how close to the wood should it be done)? followed by deck brightener, correct? Can I do the deck brightener right after the pressure washing and how soon afterwards can I stain (24 hours or more?)

Is the wood brightener even required at this point?

Brightener will help. Do as soon as you are done pressure washing. Wash about 8 -12 inches away from the wood.

Well I just checked our 4 stores in town and all they sell is the deck cleaner w/o any brightener stuff. My goal was to stain deck in 2 days. I just finished sanding deck last weekend and it appears clean. Would I be fine just doing the powerwash this evening and staining Friday?
