Hi,

Replaced 4' x 40' balcony (2nd story) in - San Francisco area (East Bay) California in August of this year. The Deck is Timbertech and the posts (Roof to ground), facia boards, railings are all beautiful grade B Redwood.

I've tested Armstrong, TWP and Cabot's semi-transparent stains on the spare redwood and left them outside for the last two months. All of them absorbed the wood well and look good.

We've had unusually warm/dry weather for the last 2 month's but that's going to change soon (it's now early November).

What I'm struggling with is the recommended cleaning/brightening. Since the deck itself is composite, do I still need to clean and brighten (RAD)the posts, facia and railings? If so, will RAD damage the Timbertech? The deck receives morning sun only.

I really love this site, so glad I found it!

Maryanne

Yes you need to prep the wood and no it will not harm the Timbertech. You will be fine as we do these type of projects all the time.
