I plan to reatain my white cedar siding. It was stained with oil about 5 years ago. I will power wash and then stain. A paint contractor was suggesting I use Sherwin Williams Deckscapes, but after review of rankings, I'm considering TPW 1500 stain. Would TPW 1500 be the best chaise for white cedar? Would natural on cedar tone be recommneded? Any other recommnedation for oil based stain for white cedar siding? I live in Mass.
TWP would be a great choice for siding. It will last longer the SW and will be easier to maintain as well. Natural would work well. It does have a pigment in it.
Will the TWP Natural prevent the wood from turning grey?
Yes the Natural is tinted so it will prevent the graying.
We are building our retirement home in Northern Georgia and we have selected a 1 x 12 White Pine "Rough Sawn" Siding w/ Chinking Groove. We would like a Dark Oak or Dark Walnut color.
Please advise on the proper procedure to stain the new wood siding and the best stain for this material.
The Prow front of the home will have a SE exposure and the right side will have a Southern exposure. There will be a large covered deck on the right side so much of the siding will not be exposed to direct sunlight.
New "smooth" wood should weather for 1-4 months depending on the brand of stain. For a dark oak color, I would look at TWP stains. You should install the wood, let weather for 4 months, clean and brighten, then stain for the new deck as it is smooth wood. The "Rough Sawn" wood can be stained right away.
