Hi
I have been stripping/staining my clear redwood deck in the Palo Alto CA area about every year or two for the last 15 years since I built it. I have used the Behr semi transparent and every time I am disappointed with it. Each time the Behr folks buy me a new round of products and tell me some new instructions to try. Each time it still looks bad after a year or so. I am a woodworker and love wood, but I do not love refinishing a deck every year or two and am now ready to say goodbye to the look of nice wood and go with a more opaque product to try to increase the longevity of the stain/treatment.
A few questions and observations about your reviews/suggestions:
Most of the information and ratings on your site seem to be about semi-transparent stains. What about the more opaque options.
Also, you seem to typically recommend, three brands:TWP, Defy and Armstrong. It seems that Defy and Armstrong must be purchased online and shipped. I contacted them and they have no distributors in the entire bay area.
I have obtained a lot of great information from your website, but it appears that when it comes to deck stain selection, its limited to semi-transparent stains which need to be shipped to me.
Any suggestions on a local product? I believe I can get TWP locally. Do they have an opaque option and is it any good?

We do not rank opaques yet but will in the future. We do like Flood's solid stains. TWP is a great stain and if you can get it locally I would try that. Armstrong is based out of California so I would think you can get it picked up as well locally.
