Hi there, I bought a house last summer with a redwood deck. It looks like the old owner used Thompson's waterseal to seal the deck. Which may have been last summer before he sold it to me. I noticed that the waterproofing is intermittent and I would like to clean/brighten and re-seal it. My question is, should I strip the old waterproofer away before cleaning and brightening (to avoid a patchy look)? Or can I get away with just using a brightener and the waterproofer?
Also, after stripping (if needed), can I apply the brightener immediately after the stripping/rinsing or do I have to wait 2-3 days to let the cleaner dry, then use a brightener, rinse it off, wait another 2-3 days and seal/waterproof it?
I'm in Alberta Canada, so I don't have access to all the products you have available. The deck needs to be done ASAP, so I may have to use Thompson's Waterseal Cleaner/Brightener and the Thompson's Waterseal Maximum Strength Deck Stripper to remove the old waterproofer. Please advise me on my best course of action. It looks to be a beautiful deck, but it is grey and faded right now.
Thanks you in advance for any help.
Glen.
Yes on removing the old sealer. You always apply the brightener right away after the stripping.
I need to remove Thompson's WaterSeal Stain from my deck that was applied incorrectly approx 2 years ago. We have pressure washed and I was planning to apply Behr Premium or Rustoleum Restore but have seen terrible reviews about them. Am looking at other options currently but need to get this terrible stain off the pine treated deck. What's your suggestions?
Use the Restore A Deck stain Stripper and pressure wash off. Neutralize with the Restore A deck Wood Brightener.
