I'm helping my daughter dismantle, move, and restore a used outdoor play set built by a Sunray Playgrounds. The previous owners covered the redwood with what we think is an anti-slip paint. It is a thick rough texture on the exposed parts of the play areas and we know we need to sand it off once we dismantle and move the pieces to the new location. We are thinking of renting a belt sander to run it along the pieces to begin the work of removing the awful paint. Do you have any suggestions on what we need to do in order to maintain the wood's integrity?

Sanding it all off does not sound fun but that really is your only choice. Since it will be in pieces you can probably plane it is well. Once off use a penetrating oil based stain. Armstrong Clark or TWP

Yes we may have to spend many days in the recovery process. What are your thoughts on using a paint stripper ?

Paint strippers do not always work. We have avoided them.
