My home that I purchased in April of this year has a deck that is in need of some work, I'm pretty sure it was stained at some point, (I can see color differences between the slats and the surface) but I have no idea when it was done. In addition, the railing appears to be newer although never stained. I can still see the black Red Pine stamp on some of the rails. None of the deck boards appear to be rotted, just weathered. When it rains, there is no beading on the surface.
I'd like to sand the deck, clean, strip, and stain it. So I guess my first question is, do I sand first or strip it? If sand, what grit should I use 40 or 60? I plan on using Restore-A-Deck for stripping.
Thanks in advance,
Joel
Clean and brighten the wood first. Sand if needed after.
