Can you strip a clear sealer?

We just had some deck repairs done (deck was damaged by a falling tree). The deck is a mixture of older wood (3-4 years old) that was never stained or sealed, and the brand new wood. All wood is pressure treated pine.

We had the workman apply Olympic Maximum Clear Waterproofing Sealer, which is an oil-based product, after cleaning the deck. Unfortunately, the clear sealer is not clear, but instead turned all of our new wood a bright yellow color, and has even brought out bright yellow in the old wood.

The deck looks terrible. We called Olympic Customer Service and were told that we either had to strip the deck or go over the sealer with a solid color stain. We do not want the solid color stain, as that is not a look we are after.

We had planned on using the Restore-A-Deck stripper, after reading reviews on this site. However, can we do that so soon after the initial sealer was used? It's only been one day ... (and that's an indication of how awful this "clear" sealer looks).

Thanks for any help!

You can strip off a newly applied sealer but it may take a few attempts to remove all as it can be difficult. Strip until it comes off. Make sure to use a pressure washer after applying the stripper. Once fully removed, use the Rad brightener to neutralize.

Take in consideration that there is a reason the product is tinted. No color/tint means little to now UV protection from graying. If you just want to seal and are okay with it graying, then try the Defy Extreme Clear or the TWP 100 Clear.

Thank you for your quick reply!

We are actually fine with the graying color, so will keep those recommended sealers in mind once we get the horrible yellow off.
