We have three separate roof top decks which are all cedar. Between two of the desks are stairs. When they were new they had a difference color than the deck wood (still looked a lot like cedar but darker). The stairs did not weather as quickly as the decks. The color stayed solid for at least a couple years. They are now starting to fade and the wood does look like cedar to me. I have attached two photos, one when new and one now. We are now staining the decks for the first time and I wondering if it is going to be OK to stain the steps the same as a the decks

Can you tell what type of wood this is and whether we will have a problem staining the stairs?

Not sure the wood type but it will stain darker than the rest of the cedar. Make sure to prep well first.
