I (per this site's recommendation) stained my new KDAT with TWP 100 series last fall (oct 2014). The deck was mostly complete to a "safe" state without the final handrail pickets installed. The stain has done very well on this deck but I need to finish the pickets, and I am concerned about matching the tone of newly stained and last fall stain. I think I want to clean and brighten last fall's work and re-stain or "renew " the deck stain using the same TWP product.

Here's the question - If I renew last years stain, I think the new stained pieces will appear somewhat lighter in color and I thought about two coats on the new work as the old work was only one coat. Am I wasting my time renewing last years stain with only 6 months on the "odometer"?

Thoughts?

Yes I would not bother with last years stain. Do the new wood this year and then next season do all after a good prep. It will all look even then.
