Hello, looking for some guidance on this sun drenched deck in Illinois. Cedar boards, was stained previously in what appears to be a semi-transparent stain. Would you recommend stripping the deck, brightening, sanding? Just curious what steps would be best. Given it's full sun location, would it be best to finish with a semi-transparent or a solid? The homeowner would prefer to keep it the same. As well, would oil based last longer than water based? I appreciate any feedback. -Kevin

Strip and brighten for prep. Look at the Restore A Deck Kits for prep. Stain with a penetrating semi-transparent stain. Try Armstrong Clark or Restore A Deck Stains.

@administrator Thanks Scott, do you not believe sanding is necessary? Just want to be sure I'm well prepared for this project.

I've heard nothing but great things about AC stains. I'll look into this. Thank you!
