First time posting, and glad to have found this website 🙂
I have a 20-year-old porch made of cedar, and I just replaced my old lattice with new horizontal boards that are pressure-treated. We would like to stain the old cedar boards and the horizontal planks the same color, then do all vertical spindles/balusters white.
My question...do you think I can use a stain that will create a uniform look for cedar and pressure treated pieces, or will they look much different due to the difference in age and material?
FYI, I used Behr all in one wood cleaner (#64) then power washed. Next step is to use a wood brightener and sander to help with the old cedar boards.
Any info is appreciated, thank you!
A semi-transparent stain will not blend the two different wood types and ages. Only a solid stain would.
Thoughts on using a semi-solid stain? Seems like a decent compromise if I want to see a little wood grain while using more pigment. If so, let me know if you recommend a brand. Thanks!
It still will not blend perfectly but a little better. Look at Armstrong Clark in one of their semi-solid colors.
Thank you again. Looks like Armstrong Clark doesn't sell in my area. Would you say the second best option for semi solid stain is DEFY? I see many options on their site but nothing that is specifically semi solid.Â
Defy does not sell a semi-solid. We order the AC online and have it shipped.
