Hi,

We stained our redwood arbor/trellis with superdeck semi-transparent redwood stain, and it is
too orange. It is already dry. Is it possible to apply another semi-transparent stain on top to
reduce the orange tint, like add green to make it more brown? Can semi-transparent stain go right over semi-transparent?

My other option is simply to paint over the semi-transparent stain with a solid stain or exterior paint, such
as white.

Any suggestions appreciated. Things were going so well until I messed up the color!
Thanks

Also, it looks more orange than the picture indicates. Probably the reason I am having a problem since I made decisions based on photos.

You cannot add more stain on top to "blend" a color. You also will have issued with applying more stain as it may not penetrate and or dry correctly. best to strip it off and start over. Many of the stain brands will offer samples for you to test first.

Thanks for the reply.... if I were to paint over it.... do I need to strip first? Or can I simply prime and paint with a solid stain or exterior paint.

It would be best to strip if you want to use a solid color deck stain.
