We have a new cedar deck. We love it's reddish color and want to keep it looking nice. People are telling us everything from stain it right away (with a semi-transparent)to wait a year. We are happy to wait, but nervous that it will gray, and then it'll be all over (we saw some graying of the edges of the finials after the first rain). We are in rainy/wintery Wisconsin. What's the straight scoop on graying? Much thanks~

Graying is okay. That is why you clean and prep before applying the stain.

Just to be clear - we also have a cedar fence that was never treated and is all gray, probably for years and years. If we clean it and prep it it'll look red-ish again?
