Hello Again DSH:  we will be applying AC semi-transparent stain to a cleaned/brightened cedar deck (Maine; lots of sun; very large deck).  A couple application questions please:

1) We saw a suggestion from Defy Wood Stain on using a car wash brush to apply their stain.  We saw that the Defy brush (and many other car wash brushes) has polypropylene bristles.  AC semi-trans is oil-based.  Could/should we apply an oil-based stain with a synthetic fiber brush?  Do you have any experience using car wash brushes ?

2) We saw your suggestion to avoid rollers as applicators in favor of pads or brushes.  Does that hold true even if back brushing afterward (we saw someone else suggesting a roller on a broom pole followed by brush on similar pole for speed/convenience)?

Thanks for all your help!

derekw

1. You can use a car wash brush with synthetic bristles.

2. Rollers splatter. They are more for paints. Pads and brushes are much better for stains like the AC.
