Hi guys, great site BTW,

I built a deck about 4 weeks ago 12 x 16 ceder, in Minnesota almost full sun.

I think I will be using the TWP 1500 (whats the difference between TWP 100 and 1500?)

Should I stain it now before winter? or wait until spring?

Thanks,

-Mark

TWP 1500 is a low VOC stain and has a higher solid content.

TWP suggest waiting 4-12 months before staining new wood. I would wait.

Hello,

Same scenario for me, I'm trying to determine if I should wait until spring to stain my new cedar deck that I finished a month ago (Minnesota as well). I have purchased Armstrong Clark semi-transparent, should I wait until spring as well? Thanks, Sean

Armstrong penetrates into new wood better then TWP. If you do this year then apply a very light coat. You can always add another light maintenance coat to the floor next year if needed.

Thanks, are there any issues with waiting until Spring? Will I get better results if I stain now in the fall vs. in the spring? Thanks.

Just completed a new deck with pressure treated pine in the last two weeks. Would like to use Defy Extreme. Should I wait a while or can I treat now before winter? If I can treat now should I use a cleaner ? Also if I ever want to use a solid color stain down the road would there be a problem? This deck faces the northeast with no shade.

I would like to stain my redwood deck today but the high is 67 degrees with a low of 41 degrees tonight. I'm using TWP 101 Cedartone. Am I OK?

Steo250, no issues if waiting until Spring. Just clean and brighten to prep. better to wait for best results.

Greenhill, definitely wait until Spring when you deck is only a couple of weeks old and using Defy Extreme. You can use a solid color stain down the road if needed.

EddieV, It should be okay to use TWP within those temperature ranges.

Sorry for the late responses! I missed these posts.

I just finished a WRC deck & I was hoping to clean, brighten & stain it this Fall. I already have the Restore a Deck product and the Armstrong Clark Semi Cedar stain. Our avg temps in Toronto right now are approx 50-60 degrees. Is this weather too cold to complete this work this Fall?

New wood should dry for 1-2 months before using Armstrong Clark. Might want to wait until Spring for best results.
