Hi all,

Much thanks for my previous question about garapa.  Based on it I have decided to change material to clear cedar which should give me the aethetic look I am wanting.

I was wondering what sealer would be best to give UV protection AND keep it as close to the natural color as possible?

Some folks on houzz seem to recommend Cabots or Daly's Sefin ship n shore?  The lumbar store I am ordering from rec. Penofin in the red ultra premium label.  I have ipe oil already so should I try that first?  If I do and it looks shabby in a few months do I have to strip it down or can I try a different one top of it?

Lost in the world of clear finishes that have UV protection that won't alter the color much.  I don't mind applying every year as it is a small area and easily accessible.

Thanks in advance.

I am not sure you understand fully? The only way to keep the natural color is to use a clear with no pigment and that also means you will have zero UV protection. The wood will start to gray in months.

Thanks I get that.  My question is of the options for sealer companies is there one that with you experience gives the closest coloring to cedar.  Which companies pigment color is the closest to "clear" sealer which I understand has no UV protection.

For example, if I use the TWP1500 series is the honeytone or natural or cedartone close to no UV pigmented sealer?

Thanks in advance.

If you are looking for the lightest tints then Honeytone in TWP, Natural in Armstrong Clark, and Natural in Restore-A-Deck Wood Stain. All will enhance the color similar to as if wet with water. That is the lightest enhancement you will get and still have UV protection.
