Thank you for this site. I've been spending the past 2 hours reading through all the great information here and was hoping you can help me nail down a plan.
I have a large 25 year old Cedar deck in MN and have just finished replacing all the horizontal pieces with new Cedar this week. We elected to keep the spindles and horizontal rail pieces as they are still in excellent condition. I had used CWF in the past from Menards and last applied this product about 5 years ago onto these vertical portions. They still look fairly good! My deck is in the shade most of the day and of course we have winters where the deck has snow on it most all the time.
I'd like to treat my new deck boards before going into winter if possible. From reading here it looks like there are a couple recommended product that will allow me to do that in about 3 months this fall. I have a pressure washer and was wondering about the best way to prep my NEW and OLD wood so that it will take on a new product without looking terribly mismatched.
Also, what product would be the best for my area and situation? In the past I was successful getting a good result from CWF by redoing the horizontal portions every two years and the vertical portions every 4 years. I love the look of my cedar's character so I'm interested in a semi-transparent all in one product that enhances the cedar tone nicely.
Thanks!
Troy
The CWF will need to come off by stripping and sanding. I would do that now. Let all new and old wood weather for a few months and then clean and brighten all for prep in the Fall. Stain with TWP 100 Series.
