Deck Stain Questions and Answers

Hi,
My wife and I are currently "re-doing" our wrap around deck. We have removed the entire hand railing, as it was terrible. we have just finished removing any 2x6 floorboards that were really splintered or starting to rot out and get soft. So my floor has a mix of new and old "painted" boards. My hand railing is ALL new AC2 green treated posts, rails and verticals.
I WILL be sanding the entire deck floor with a floor drum sander, to take most of the old paint off. But, I assume I won't get everything.
So, I was thinking originally of using something like Cabot Deck restore as the finish, as I KNOW Cabot stains are excellent, but I've read horrible reviews on ALL the deck restore products, except Cabots.
So, my question to the group is..should I go with the Cabots Deck Restore, or just go with a good solid color stain? I have read that a solid color stain will also cover and adhere to any paint that might not have gotten removed.

oh..and I CAN get Cabot solid color stain in either Acrylic or OIL locally. is oil usually better? Should I go with oil?

Ok..but I've read that the oil based solid color is not recommended over painted surfaces..is this true or not?
