We built a new deck in 2014 and stained it with Defy extreme in October of that year, by spring of this year, 14 months later. 90% of the stain has peeled off the deck floor. We meticulously prepped with RAD according to the instructions on this site and then did the staining.

We are in Idaho and the deck has full sun until mid/late afternoon.

What would be options that would last longer than a year?

Hello, new wood has to be weathered and prepped first. It also needs a light coat after 12-18 months. This is normal for all brands as new wood does not absorb a high volume of stain into the wood. If you want to switch, use the RAD stripper kits and remove any remaining Defy. Try the Armstrong Clark in a semi-solid color since you have a high UV index.
