Deck Stain Questions and Answers

We live in maine and installed a pt deck 3 months ago. I plan on cleaning it with a pressure washer and letting it dry before staining with TWP 1500. The deck already has those little surface cracks all over. Is there anything else I should do to protect these cracking areas? I feel we should have stained it sooner but everyone tell you to let it weather first.
