I recently had a IPE deck built 2 weeks, where the holes were plugged and the plugs/boards sanded. When the boards are wet, I can see the true beauty of the wood, but when dry just looks dull. I talked to my deck builder and he said "thats the way it looks". Pieces that have not been sanded (under the doors) look lovely. I've been researching if staining with messmers (or other products) is something i can do once the weather warms up, since I'm not happy with the current way the deck looks. I've already voiced my displeasure to the deck builder, but this sounds like something I'm going to need to resolve myself.
I've attached a picture if this helps.
Let the wood weather for 2-3 months and then prep with a deck cleaner. Just one coat of the hardwood stain. Try Armstrong Clark in one of their three hardwood colors or Restore-A-Deck Wood stain in Light Walnut.
Post a completed picture when done. It will look great!
