I am having the cedar posts and railing caps replaced on my current deck. Deck material is composite and in excellent condition (4-yrs old) - understructure all CCA. I want to apply two coats of a semi-transparent stain to the new cedar before it is installed. Which product/manufacturer do you recommend for good penetration, lasting results? Thanks.
You cannot prestain new wood. See here: https://www.deckstainhelp.com/staining-a-new-deck/
Understood ... allowing some weathering is best. I was hoping for some middle ground. 550SF deck, 14 posts, elevation from ground 12".
Once new 6" cedar posts are re-installed, access to a complete coverage is impossible and protecting the existing composite deck surface a bit of a challenge. Some recommendation even for a single coat?
It will not take is the issue and will fail in months. You also only need to stain the wood that is exposed. You can do it if you want but you will need to redo within a year or less.
