Hello,

I am hoping to stain a new deck flooring (fully covered by roof but still gets strong sun part of the day and will get some rain as its open) as well as the siding of a new house we're building down here in the Caribbean. Both are yellow pine. Because of where we are we have limited access in terms of products. What is carried on island is primarily:

- Cabot ATO (various colors)

- Penofin (transparent only)

- Miracle Coat (fully transparent)

- Regular tung oil

- BM Arborcoat, SW SuperDeck, Harris Woodcare penetrating & poly-stain

For the floors I was hoping to get a similar look as I've seen obtained with "white oils", but I cannot find any here. Wondering if it is possible to mix a white tint in with any of the oils available here? I've been told Miracle Coat can go on top of other stains/etc., but haven't seen many reviews of the product. Does anyone have any experience with this one? Given I've read bad things about pretty much all of these options (except for MC, which only has a few positive reviews I can find), I'm wondering which would be the best of the worst? Thank you so much for any advice!

See this first about new wood: https://www.deckstainhelp.com/staining-a-new-deck/

You cannot tint any of the brands that you are able to find locally and no, you should never topcoat an outside wood stain with another product. It will blister and peel.

Of the brand you have locally, we would use the Cabot ATO.

Thank you so much for letting me know. Yes this website and that page in particular have been extremely helpful - thank you so much for putting it all together. People here have had mostly good/ok experiences with ATO despite some of the horror stories I've read here, so we will give it a go. Do you have any specific recommendations for how long to wait before applying ATO- the standard 3+ months? Thank you again!

Yes, three months and then prep should work.
