Howdy:

My Ipe deck is seven years old. After using Australian Timber Oil for a few years, a nasty buildup occurred and I stripped it last Saturday using Restore A Deck Stripper (that stuff is amazing). After stripping, I used an oxalic-based brightener and let it dry for a few days. Today I put a coat of Messmers on (Natural tone) and the wood just sucked it up. The deck appears "dry", as in, the Timber Oil had a "wet" look. Would it be ok to apply a second coat of Messmers? Mind you, I don't have enough product on hand right now for a second coat and would have to order it. Some posts here reference applying a second coat of Messmers "wet on wet". Am I stuck? Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Hard to say for sure it a second coat will soak in. Please post a picture by clicking on the "reply" tab above. You can upload there.

I think it looks fine. It would be better to lightly apply a coat in the late Fall.
