Deck Stain Questions and Answers

My husband is a deck builder, and he wants to recommend products to his customers that will perform well. How do you determine your ratings and reviews of stains? I've also looked at Consumer Reports ratings, and their top-rated stain gets a poor review here.

Ratings are determined on a number of things.
Overall initial appearance
UV Fading after 2 years
Ease of application initially
Ease of reapplication after 2 years
etc.
We use established contractors to test in a real world environment. Consumer Reports does a poor job of testing on actual decks. In addition they do not take inconsideration many of the factors that we apply when testing. Ease of reapplication after 2 years, real world application, etc.
