Hello I live in Dallas and our new deck is about 20 ft enclosed (will be screened in next week) and the other 40 to 50 ft will be exposed to the sun half of the day (shaded the other half). Our deck is made from Treated Pine (Yellawood).

As I understand it from this website I should wait until at least the fall to stain the deck. Should I waterproof it at all in the meantime?

From the info gathered at this site I should use a kit to clean/wash as well as brighten when the time comes. Is there a specific stain you would use for Dallas? As I understand it there is basically three good stains that y'all go by, I'm assuming these would be good for Dallas too?

Considering that 20 ft on the deck will be enclosed (has roof protecting it) is there any additional advice you'd give me regarding the difference in weathering? Is it a good idea to use two different stains? One for the enclosed area and one for the exposed?

I appreciate the information and thank you for creating this website.

No do not waterproof it. We would suggest the Defy Extreme or Armstrong Clark. Same stain for all. Nothing you can do to prevent the difference in weathering. The enclosed are will last twice as long as the outside area.

Thank you very much. I'll post a pick whenever I get it stained.
