Confused - need help

I have a board and batten shed that I want to stain with a semi-transparent oil stain. The shed has been unfinished for over a year and I cleaned it last weekend and it looks good. I'm confused as to which stain to use. Your reviews state that Behr and Benjamin Moore are awful while they were the winners in Tim Carter's (askthebuilder.com)stain tests. His test included stained wood left for one year on his New Hampshire dock versus pieces that were stained and boxed. Tim's pictures compare the pieces and the Behr and BM look really good.

Obviously, there are many comments on this site expressing how bad Behr and BM are. It's just very confusing. What do folks think is the best stain for me to use. FYI, the boards are rough. I don't have a sprayer so I'll be doing this with a brush. What is the best technique to use?
