Thanks to the great knowledge provided here, I decided to go with Woodrich timberoil on a brand new Western Red Cedar deck (Seattle area).
My question is how to best apply? With a garden sprayer or a pad?
Thanks!
Guillaume

You can spray but you would need to back wipe to ensure uniformity.

I forgot to ask, does the deck need to be dry to apply TimberOil? I will wash and brighten before, but not sure if I should let it dry.
Thank you

Yes the wood needs to be completely dry.

I am gleaning a great amount of qualified information here. Regarding application, I am staining "flipped" ptp deck boards (cost of new wood is prohibitive (deck is @ 2500sq.ft.). The underside deck boards are in really good shape, obviously need cleaning and brightened for stages 1-2. Once prepared, I plan to use TWP 100 in a Dark Oak. I am spraying/brushing the first coat - spraying to make sure stain gets into spaces between boards. I have a few key questions 1) How soon should the second coat be applied? Everyone talks about "wet-on-wet" 2)But what does that mean? If re-coated too soon, I imagine wet sticky/stainy wet shoe prints and smearing. If allowed to dry too long, everybody says that is a disaster. 3) How soon is too soon before second coat is applied? 4) How long is too long? PS: I will be applying in 90-95 degrees in Houston, TX, and deck is in full sun most of the day. Any guidance is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

1. Apply the second coat as soon as you are done with the first coat.
2. Wet on wet, apply second coat while first coat is still wet. No footprints will appear. just do not step on your second coat.
3. Apply about 20-40 minutes after first coat.

Thanks
