Looking to switch from a latex painted to oil stained deck. I live in Western, Massachusetts and we get all four seasons here. The deck is pretty old and weathered, no rot or algae growth. I was planning on power sanding the entire thing, and know that I will not be able to get all the paint out of the deck board imperfections (cracks, knots, dents, etc.) Was thinking of using SW SuperDeck, but after reading your articles I will probably change product. After sanding, do I need to pressure wash it? Would I need to then clean and brighten the deck? What would your recommended process be?

Sorry, don't see where I can edit my post, but would it just be easier to prep the deck and go with latex/oil paint instead of stain?

If you want to switch you will need to power sand to remove and then clean and brighten for final prep of the wood.

Would you recommend the 100 or 1500 series stain? I live in Massachusetts.
