I am a wood floor finisher and I have a client with roughly 1500sqft of tongue and grove pine decking he would like sanded and stained as well. The home is located in Michigan so I am thinking the TWP 100 SERIES. My question is after I sand and buff out the deck is a brightner even needed ? The surface area will be clean and they are choosing a lighter colored stain so I am not sure if I still need to open the grain up further as I am assuming that is part of what a brightner can do.
You should use both a deck cleaner and a wood brightener after sanding before applying the TWP.
I am missing something. Why would I introduce chemicals to the wood (cleaner) then have to neutralize with the brightner if the material is clean ? I could see the brightner as it's a liquid it would raise the grain and open the pores a bit more for deeper penetration after I sanded and buffed it smooth. What can the cleaner do that my sanding equipment can not achieve ?
The cleaner will help remove all the sand dust that you will leave in the pores. Lifts it up so you can wash it out.
Thank you very much for explaining the " why " I am a spoiled hardwood floor guy doing a favor for a client. I was contracted for the interior and this deck simply fell in my lap. So between my dustless systems and the final vacuum there would not be enough dust to fill a small cup left behind. I will try to post a pic when we are finished for you.
Great!
