We built a 14x24 meranti deck last summer, and are finally getting around to finishing it. From what I understand, we need to clean and brighten it, then stain. It's VERY splintery though...is there anything we can do to fix this? If so, what do we use, and in what order?

For cleaning and brightening, we wre looking at the RAD product, and then saw the Gemini RAD. Is there a difference between them, other than price? After it's been sanded and prepped, how long do we wait before staining? We are planning on using Armstrong Clark Mahogany.

Many thanks for your help!

I would clean and brighten first. Lightly sand after then apply the stain. Wait a couple of days after the prep to stain.

Thanks so much! Can you also give me a little detail about the sanding step? What grit, what sort of tool? And how should we clean off the dust to make sure it's gone before staining?

Thanks again!

Sand with 60 grit paper and a pole sander. Lightly rinse the deck with water when done to remove the dust.
