We had a new deck installed 2016 and stained 8 months later using Sherwin Williams Super Deck Exterior Semi-transparent stain. The deck has full sun with a pergola and the wood used is pressure treated wood. THE DECK IS CRACKING AND DECK NEEDS RESTRAINED. DO WE NEED TO STRIP THE DECK FIRST AND THEN RETAIN AND WHAT KIND OF STAIN DO WE USE AS THE SHERWIN WILLIAMS STAIN HAS NOT Held UP?" Can we just apply a new semi-transparent stain on top without stripping?

You have to strip and brighten for prep. Use the Restore A Deck Stripper Kits. Stain with TWP or Armstrong Clark.

We also bought a home with decks painted with 2 coats of SW Super Deck in 2019 - where it is exposed to the sun it has chipped and pealed and even soft in some areas.  The 6X6X16' columns on this extended deck were also painted with the SW product are rotted.  That portion of our deck is being removed.

The rest of our deck needs help.  The 6X6 columns are cracked.  Our thought was to buddy the cracks, sand, and stain with TWP - does this still need to be cleaned with the Restore a Deck kit before doing any other stop?

.....the deck under roof is wearing in highly traffic areas and around the edges exposed to the sun.  We would like to removed the cedar color - do we strip, sand, or? Must we use another semi-transparent paint since that was what they used?

You will have to sand off the current paint if you want to switch to a semi-transparent color.
